Sarah B Hansen's contemporary textural artwork is inspired from wilderness hiking and explorations in nature.
Sarah B. Hansen is an award-winning artist and Signature Member of the Northwest Watercolor Society, known for her expressive paintings in acrylic, watercolor, and gouache. A self-taught painter with over 30 years of experience, Sarah began with realistic watercolor portraits before shifting to bold, vibrant depictions of nature.
Raised on a farm in southwestern Colorado, she spent her early years immersed in the wilderness—hiking, camping, and exploring the Colorado Rockies. This love for the outdoors remains central to her artistic voice. After moving to Oregon in 1987, Sarah worked in interior design while developing her painting skills through independent study. Recognition soon followed, with awards for her emotionally resonant portraiture.
Now based in Terrebonne, Oregon, Sarah creates contemporary paintings inspired by wild spaces and open skies. Her work is held in private and public collections, including Kaiser Permanente, Sunriver Resort, and Central Oregon Family Medicine.
Sarah teaches workshops throughout the U.S. and abroad, including in Italy, Costa Rica, and recently, Croatia (2025). She has instructed at Winslow Art Center, Ah Haa School for the Arts, and Oregon Society of Artists. She was a finalist in the 2024 Plein Air Salon (Floral Category) and juried into both the American Impressionist Society’s National Exhibition and the Northwest Watercolor Society’s International Open Exhibition that same year. Sarah has also appeared on the Learn to Paint Podcast and served as a juror for the WA Artist Plein Air Group.
Exhibitions include the High Desert Museum (Juror’s Choice Award), Coos Art Museum’s Expressions West (Honorable Mention), Bowman Museum, and Favell Museum.
She is represented by Tumalo Art Co. (Bend, OR), Rickard’s Gallery (Sisters, OR), and Marmot Art Space (Spokane, WA). Sarah is a member of the American Watercolor Society (AWS), the American Impressionist Society (AIS), and a Signature Member of the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS).
